the little things

I went to a day long seminar on web development and newspapers today… the subject content was pretty standard: get on the web or be left behind, starting using multimedia content, etc., but lunch was fun because I got to talk to three of the Beacon-Journal’s web developers (one of whom happened to also be just leaving from her position as education reporter) and it just made me chuckle at the things that we all talk about on different levels of the industry.

Basically, we’re concerned about the same types of stories and content on different scales, but there are some things that just don’t compare. The three journalists were telling our photographer and me about the ins and outs of the Beacon’s parking garage, and where the best place is to park, since good spots are at a premium. I have never even thought about parking, since our biggest battle is a trumped-up dispute with the cable company next door parking their trucks in our lot, even though we have no shortage of parking anywhere. They also voiced a complaint about their card entry system. We still use old fashioned keys. I do get stuck behind buggy traffic, which I KNOW they don’t have in downtown Akron. So there.
